# What Kuuko does, and what it can’t do

> What protects you, and where the limits are. Markdown copy of https://kuuko.app/learn/what-kuuko-does/ for agents; the HTML page is the source. Facts checked 28 October 2026. Part of Kuuko's Learn articles, the same as in the app.

Kuuko protects your privacy in three ways today. Each one has limits, and this article names them.

1. **Blocking across your apps.** Kuuko DNS answers your device’s questions for addresses. For trackers, ads and scams on its lists, it answers “doesn’t exist”, so they never load. This works across your apps and browsers. [How Kuuko DNS works](https://kuuko.app/learn/how-kuuko-dns-works/)
2. **An address for every company.** An alias is a new email address that forwards mail to your inbox. Give each shop its own. If one gets spam, switch it off; the others keep working. [When an alias gets spam, or leaks](https://kuuko.app/learn/when-an-alias-gets-spam/)
3. **Your own VPN, if you have one.** Kuuko connects your device to the VPN provider you chose, and blocking keeps working through it. Kuuko runs no VPN servers. [What a VPN does](https://kuuko.app/learn/what-a-vpn-does/)

## No name, no email address

- Aliases and the ledger live in your Kuuko vault. Blocking and the VPN work without one.
- Your vault needs no name, no email address and no password. You get a passkey on your device and 12 words to write down.
- If you lose your passkeys and the 12 words, nobody can restore your vault, not even Kuuko.

## What Kuuko can’t do

- Look inside apps, or read what they send.
- Stop apps that send tracking data to their own company’s servers, the same ones the app needs to work, as Instagram does with Meta. [What Kuuko can’t block](https://kuuko.app/learn/what-kuuko-cant-block/)
- Stop a shop from sending what you bought to Meta or Google from its own server. An alias helps a little: the shop doesn’t have your real email address to send.
- Hide who you are when you log in to a website or app.

## See it for yourself

- The protection test on the Blocking tab asks Kuuko about real trackers with your settings, right now.
- [Check it yourself](https://kuuko.app/support/#test): three independent tests in your browser.
- If something doesn’t work, see [When Kuuko doesn’t work](https://kuuko.app/support/#fix).
