# When an alias gets spam, or leaks

> Turn it off with one tap. Markdown copy of https://kuuko.app/learn/when-an-alias-gets-spam/ for agents; the HTML page is the source. Facts checked 28 October 2026. Part of Kuuko's Learn articles, the same as in the app.

Give each company its own alias. When spam arrives, you can see which alias it came to, and you can switch just that one off.

## Spam

- Switch the alias off in the Aliases tab. Your other aliases keep working.
- Still need that company? Make a new alias for it.

## How Kuuko notices a leak

- Leak detection is off until you switch it on, in Aliases › Leak detection.
- You name the company when you make the alias, or confirm the first sender Kuuko sees.
- Mail from another sender still reaches you, with a warning line at the top.
- The app shows it on the alias, with how many mails came from someone else, and with a notification when you open Kuuko.
- With automatic pause, the alias switches off after that mail.

## What it can’t do

- A company that writes from a domain you didn’t name causes a false warning. Add that domain to the alias.
- A leak by the company itself, such as its own data breach, isn’t noticed: the mail still comes from its domain.
- Aliases that accept any name before the @ are left out.

## The ledger

- Note for each alias what you shared with whom, when and why.
- It’s encrypted with a key made from your 12 words. Kuuko’s server keeps only a copy it can’t read, so your iPhone and Mac stay in step.
